The first artist that came to mind was Maria Mena. Not many people know who she is in Connecticut or even the United States. She had one album released here – “White Turns Blue.” I started to get into her a few years after that album was released. I was doing my perusing on YouTube, when “You’re the Only One” played. Since then, I have been obsessed with listening to her. She writes and sings about eating disorders, abusive relationships, troubling parental relationships, love, hurt, recovery, etc. Even though I don’t struggle with all of that on that list, I still identify strongly with her writing and songs. They have helped through difficult times and remind me that I am not alone. Her lyrics are perfection. I hope to see her live one day.
