Day 16: A book you’ve read that changed your views on something.

I could take this in a lot of ways. A lot of the books I read at SIT changed my viewpoint in one way or another. That’s just not what I want to discuss right now.

When I was a sophomore in college, I was very depressed one winter. I didn’t want to leave the house- mostly due to depression but also semi due to the huge zit I had in the middle of my eyebrows. I picked up a book I had in my house – Storm Front by Jim Butcher. I couldn’t put the book down. It even motivated me to leave the house to buy the next book in the series.

This book has saved my life multiple times. The main character is a wizard in modern-day Chicago. His name is Harry Dresden. He was easy to connect to. His life was hard. He overcame it all. He kept going. He kept fighting. He inspired me.

This book changed my views in how to survive. It changed my views in my strength. It changed my views on what I am capable of.

“Have you ever felt despair? Absolute hopelessness? Have you ever stood in the darkness and known, deep in your heart, in your spirit, that it was never, ever going to get better? That something had been lost, forever, and that it wasn’t coming back?”- Jim Butcher, Storm Frontimage1-4
